Canon 2/8/23

today I saw someone on reddit ask "are kirkbride's unlicensed lore writings considered canon?" to my surprise, the top post deferred to a quote from Todd Howard; I got distracted and I lost the thread, but the gist of the quote was that the order of operations, so to speak, for determining what is canon is thus: what is seen in screen/in game what is read in in-game literature officially licensed media it may seem obvious to take the word of the current head of bgs but that just seems wrong to me. not like morally or ethically wrong but just factually wrong. TH may hold the reigns but he did not breed, raise, or train the horse. Kirkbride is, imo, the true loremaster. being the mind behind most of the best lore in the es universe just gives him the most credibility to me, licensed or not, because (aside from the fact that it's fiction, bc that line of thought is boorriiinnngggg), the es universe, to me, had expanded well beyond the confines of the games. it is so lush and so deep. Kirkbride is contradicts the lore less than todd even does. he is responsible for the es universe becoming what it is. in short, he is the God head which created the God head.
